Attention Families of Rising High School Student-Athletes!

New Florida Law Requires ECG Screenings for New FHSAA Athletes Beginning This Year

Who Needs an ECG?

  • Rising 2026 – 2027 Freshmen trying out for and/or participating in FHSAA interscholastic athletics in any/all sports

  • New Student-Athletes in Grades 10 – 12, those who did NOT play FHSAA sports previously

Note: Returning FHSAA student-athletes are NOT required to have an ECG, however, ALL student-athletes must complete a sports physical documented on the FHSAA EL2 form. ECGs are NOT required for Band, ROTC, Dance, or Flagline.

Event Details

The non-profit organization Who We Play For will be offering the following upcoming opportunities for student-athletes within Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties to receive low-cost ECG screenings:

  • ECG Screening Dates for Rising Freshmen Becoming FHSAA Student Athletes

  • Saturday, March 7 Saturday, April 11

  • Baptist Medical Park – Nine Mile Road 9400 University Parkway, Pensacola, FL 32514

  • Registration

  • Cost: $20 per ECG via Who We Play For (Financial assistance available upon request)

  • Electronic registration REQUIRED at least three days prior to each event

  • Register at: https://www.whoweplayfor.org/heart-screening-registration (Visit website & select “Escambia County, FL”)

  • Screening slots for these events are limited per event and available on a first-come, first-served basis

Important Notes

All student-athletes are encouraged to receive their screening a minimum of three months ahead of their athletic season start date.

If follow-up care is needed, families are responsible for costs. Who We Play For can assist with provider connections as needed.

For all FHSAA clearance requirements, check the FHSAA website or with your high school’s athletic department. The FHSAA ECG screening documentation requirements for the FHSAA were released in early February.
